Our Students
Our students come from all over the world to attend school in the Central Okanagan. Some students come for the amazing athletic opportunities available in our high schools such as the Soccer, Golf, and Hockey Academies. Other students come to live with extended family members to experience Canadian culture and improve their English. Still more students come to graduate from a Canadian public school so they can attend a Canadian or American university.
Students from Korea, Thailand, and Japan. All three of these girls study at Rutland Senior Secondary. |

While our program is still in its beginning stages, we are proud to say we have students from New Zealand, Korea, Thailand, Japan, Switzerland, Taiwan, Germany, Mexico and the United States. Our International Students who's language is not English find the complete immersion experience provided by our district to be an excellent opportunity to learn English. You can often find our Canadian students eagerly introducing themselves to their fellow International Students because the opportunity to meet and talk about another country is truely a unique and interesting experience for them.
For us, it is exciting to hear both our International students and our Canadian students ask "when will there be more International students at our school"? Our international students are looking for another one or two people to join them from their native country. Our Canadian students recognize the unique opportunity they have to make a friend with someone who offers different perspectives on culture, customs, traditions, and language!

Judith
I came to Kelowna to improve my English and to learn a little bit about what life in another country is like. I like the great landscape here, because Germany is so overpupulated and I like it to do something outside and to take pictures. Here in the Okanagan Valley are so many Lakes and it is so hot and I love to do watersports and swimming stuff like that so I think that I am right here :) |

My father asked if I wanted to come to Kelowna to stay with my aunt and her family and attend school here. I was delighted by the idea of staying in a different country so that I could see what people in Canada were like. So far I have been here for for a little while and am really enjoying it (all except the heat). It will be a great experience and I am really looking forward to spending my time here and going to school here in Kelowna. |
