Host Families Needed!
School District # 23 is seeking English speaking families in Kelowna, Lake Country, Rutland and on the Westside to host International Students starting in September 2009. Middle and secondary school students will study from one semester to several years at your local public school. You provide a private room and participation in your family as if the student were one of your own – a true Canadian experience.  You are rewarded with a wonderful chance to share with them and learn about another country, customs, and culture. Host families receive $750 per month compensation. Airport pickup and drop off will also be needed. You can print an application form directly from this website. OR Contact International Education for more information at 860-9729 ext. 4187

Being a host family is an enriching experience. Introduce your home, country, culture and community to an International Student.

The process to become a host family is not quick. Below is an outline of the steps to follow to become a host family.

Step one:  Thoroughly read the three documents for host families:
1. Guidelines For Long Term Homestay
    Placements
2. Host Family Homestay Application Form
3. International Student Homestay
    Agreement

·       Fill in Host Family Homestay Application Form
·       Mail or drop off the form to the International Education office at  Hollywood Rd. Education Center.
·       Request two parties to fill out the Reference Letter Form and return to International Education office at Hollywood Rd.
·       Complete the Criminal Record Check (for every household member 18 years and over) at the Kelowna RCMP detachment at 350 Doyle Ave.
·       Allow 4-6 weeks for processing.

Step two: Homestay Coordinator Home Visit

Upon receipt of the Application, Criminal Record Check, and Reference Letters, the Homestay Coordinator will contact you to set up a home visit.
·       Please have your home insurance document ready to show the Homestay Coordinator.
·       All members of the household will need to be present for the interview.
Step three:  Placement of  Student

·       Host Families will be notified as far in advance as possible about student placements but there will be variations depending on each circumstance.

·       Both the host family and the student are required to sign the International Student Homestay Agreement when a student is placed in the home.
Other: Host Family Orientation

·       We require that all families hosting for International Education attend a Host Family Orientation.
·       The timeline for Orientation will depend on date of application, home visit, and placement of student.
